Places To Be Wary About When Placing Your Dumpster

by Jessica Scott

If you are going to be doing some springtime cleaning in and around your property, renting a dumpster from a roll-off service is very beneficial in having a spot to throw away unwanted items. When having the dumpster delivered, you will most likely want it as close as possible to the area where you will be doing the most disposal. While most people opt to put the dumpster in their driveway, there may be times where it would work out better in other areas so you can get the materials inside easily. Here are a few places you will want to be aware of when placing your dumpster.

Sloped Surfaces

A dumpster might look like it will be fine if you put it on a hill or slope, but once you start filling it up with heavy items, it could very easily start sliding away from the spot where you had placed it. If there is any ice or if there are moist conditions from springtime rain, the moisture in the ground can cause the dumpster to move when it gets heavier, as well. Look for a flat area without a saturated ground to place your dumpster so you do not need to worry about this happening at all.

On The Street

If you live in a city area, putting a dumpster in front of the property may seem like a good idea; however, many cities have ordinances in place pertaining to the amount of time you can leave something on a city street. If you do not have room on the property itself, go to the city courthouse to find out what the laws are regarding the street in front of your property. You might need to get a permit to leave it there. It would also be a good idea to alert neighbors if they are used to parking vehicles in the spot you will using for the dumpster.

On A Neighbor's Property

Do not assume that it will be alright to place a roll-off dumpster on a property adjacent to your own. If your neighbor is unaware of a dumpster placement, they might get upset when looking out their window to notice you have plopped it right on their yard. If you do not have ample room on your own property for the dumpster, ask your neighbor before taking it upon yourself to strategically place it so it looks like you didn't realize it was on their property line.
